If you need a tax certificate for your income tax return, a withholding tax adjustment, or simply to keep your own records up to date, here’s how to get one.
When Would You Need a Tax Certificate from Ufone?
As any other Pakistani telecom operator, Ufone withholds advance tax from your bill in accordance with the Income Tax Ordinance. As a taxpayer, the amount withheld from your bill is typically claimed back as an adjustment in your annual tax return, so having a certificate proving this deduction is usually necessary.
How to Obtain a Tax Certificate from Ufone
First of all, double-check what the amount of withheld advance tax is in your most recent monthly bill since most telecom operators charge tax on a per-billing-cycle basis. In many cases, this may be enough to substantiate a minor tax adjustment in your annual tax return.
To request a tax deduction certificate for the whole year (or another period, depending on your situation), you’ll need to contact Ufone’s Helpline (dial 333 from your Ufone phone or call from another phone) and ask to speak with a representative. When requesting a certificate, you’ll be asked to provide your CNIC and mobile phone number for verification purposes. You may also want to check whether the My Ufone app or website offers a self-service option for downloading a tax certificate, as it may be faster to request it via an online portal.
What Information Should a Tax Certificate from Ufone Contain?
A properly issued tax certificate from Ufone will specify the account holder’s details, billing period, and the amount of advance tax deducted from your monthly bill(s) for the specified period. This is the information you’ll need to report and adjust in your annual IRIS tax return.
Can You Use the Certificate When Filing Your Tax Return?
The amount of advance tax withheld from your telecom bill is included in your annual tax return as an adjustment item. The certificate itself should be kept as a supporting document in case the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) asks for it during a tax audit or to review the withholdings.
In cases when Ufone staff cannot find the CNIC or any other information about advance tax deduction, ask them to verify the request against the exact CNIC and mobile phone number you provided. Discrepancies between NTN/CNIC and telecom account details are the leading cause of a tax certificate request being denied.
