Today (31 October 2026) is the final extension for submitting your IT Return for Tax Year 2026.
Millions of people will be asking;
Am I on the list?
The Active Taxpayer List (ATL) is the official list of taxpayers maintained by the FBR. If you are on this list, you will pay the lower tax rates (taxpayers) for things like banking, property, vehicles, etc.
It’s free to check, and only takes a minute.
What is the Active Taxpayer List?
The Active Taxpayer List shows who is classed as a taxpayer.
This is checked by banks, property registrars, and excise. The list is frequently updated, so you’ll want to check the last updated date on the FBR page.
If you submit your return by midnight tonight, you’ll be classified as a taxpayer.
However, after the deadline, you will be classed as a non-taxpayer until you pay the ATL surcharge.
There is no longer a late taxpayer category.

- You were late in submitting it.
- You dialled the wrong number.
What to Do if You Are Not Active After the Deadline
If you submit after the deadline you won’t be added to the list.
You will need to pay the Surcharge for ATL Activation under Section 182A of the Income Tax Ordinance.
The surcharge has increased significantly in the Finance Act 2026.

The normal late penalties will also apply under Section 182.
