Every FBR payment in Pakistan — income tax, sales tax, withholding, property transfer tax, whatever it is — goes through the same mechanism: you generate a PSID (Payment Slip ID) online, then pay it via internet banking, ATM, or over the counter. There’s no separate “online payment portal” outside of this; the e-Payments section inside IRIS is the actual system.
Step 1: Log In to IRIS
Go to iris.fbr.gov.pk and log in with your CNIC/NTN and password. If you’re new and don’t have credentials yet, you’ll need to complete registration first — see our FBR IRIS Login guide for the full process.
Step 2: Go to e-Payments and Pick Your Tax Category
Once inside, the top navigation has an e-Payments tab. Under it, you’ll see distinct categories — Income Tax, Sales Tax, Sales Tax Withholding, Tax on Immovable Property, Federal Excise, CVT on Motor Vehicle, and CVT on Foreign Assets, among others. Picking the right one matters: the challan is tied to a specific tax head, and paying under the wrong category creates a reconciliation headache later.
Step 3: Generate the PSID
Fill in the required fields — tax year, amount, and any transaction-specific details depending on which category you picked. Review everything before submitting, since a wrong figure or wrong tax year means creating a fresh PSID rather than editing the one you already generated. Download and keep the PDF once it’s generated.
Step 4: Pay the Challan
You can pay via:
- Internet/mobile banking — most major Pakistani banks support direct FBR challan payment through their 1LINK-integrated systems.
- ATM — select the bill payment / government dues option and enter your PSID.
- Over the counter — take the printed PSID to any branch of a scheduled bank.
Step 5: Confirm It Actually Went Through
Don’t assume the payment is recorded just because your bank confirmed the debit — log back into IRIS and check under Payment History / CPR (Computerized Payment Receipt) that it’s actually reflected against your PSID. This can take a few hours to sync, but if it’s still missing after 24 hours, that’s worth chasing with your bank and FBR rather than assuming it’ll sort itself out.
Common Problems We See
- PSID expired before payment — a PSID has a validity window (typically a few days); if it lapses, you have to generate a new one rather than reuse the old reference.
- Payment reflected under the wrong tax year — usually a data-entry mistake at PSID generation, not a bank error. Double-check the tax year field specifically, since it’s easy to leave it defaulted to the wrong one.
- CPR shows the payment but IRIS return doesn’t pick it up — sometimes needs a manual “verify” step inside the return form itself, pulling the CPR by its number rather than assuming it auto-links.

FAQs
Can I pay an FBR challan without an IRIS account?
No — PSID generation requires logging into IRIS. There’s no separate public payment portal that bypasses this.
What happens if I generate a PSID but never pay it?
It simply expires unused after its validity window — no penalty for an unused PSID itself, though the underlying tax obligation (and any related deadline) doesn’t go away.
Can someone else pay my PSID on my behalf?
Yes — the PSID itself isn’t tied to a specific payer identity at the bank counter, so a family member or your accountant can pay it for you as long as they have the PSID number/slip.
