If you’re an advocate or a Registered Trademark Agent (RTMA) filing trademark applications on behalf of clients, you register as a REPRESENTATIVE on IPO-Pakistan’s online filing system – not as a SELF user. The process shares its first steps with SELF registration but adds credential verification and a physical address-verification step by courier.

Step 1: Start Registration
Go to apply.ipo.gov.pk and click New Registration on the login screen.
Step 2: Verify Your Mobile Number and Email (Step-I)
Same as SELF registration: enter your CNIC, select your mobile Service Provider, and verify both your mobile number and email with the codes sent to each. These are locked once verified.
Step 3: Choose REPRESENTATIVE, Then ATTORNEY or RTMA
In Step-II (Authorized Representative Detail), select REPRESENTATIVE instead of SELF. Two further options appear:
- ATTORNEY – if you’re a registered lawyer with any Provincial Bar Council, the Islamabad Bar Council, or the Pakistan Bar Council
- RTMA – if you’re a Registered Trademark Agent with the Trademark Registry, IPO-Pakistan
Step 4: Select Your Business Type and Enter Details
Selecting ATTORNEY reveals a Business Type field with three options: Sole Proprietorship, Association of Persons (Firm), or Private Limited Company. This describes the legal structure of your law practice – if it’s a Partnership/AOP, you’ll also need to provide the names and CNICs of the other partners.
Fill in Title, Full Name, Gender, License No. (your Bar Council License No., HCR No., or SCR No.), Name of Law Practice, Landline Phone, Correspondence Address (the law firm’s mailing address only – not the firm name, city, or phone number, which have their own fields), Province, and City.
This information is used to auto-populate the Correspondence Address field on TM-1 forms later, formatted as Law Practice Name, Address, City, Province.
Step 5: Upload Your Bar License
Click Choose File in the Upload License Scanned File field and select a single color scan of both sides of your Bar Council Card or Certificate (under 1MB, in .jpg, .png, or .pdf format).
Step 6: Agree to Terms and Submit
Check the Terms & Conditions box, enter the captcha, and click SAVE & CONTINUE. You’ll see a “Registration Successful” message, and a confirmation email will follow.
Step 7: Wait for Your Username and Password
After IPO-Pakistan reviews your submission for anomalies, you’ll receive an email from no-reply@ipo.gov.pk with your Username (your CNIC) and a system-generated Default Password, along with details about an address verification letter being sent to you by courier or registered post. At this point you can log in – but you still can’t submit applications yet.
Step 8: Upload Your Address Verification Letter
When the courier-delivered letter arrives, fill in the Courier Consignment Number, sign it, and stamp it as instructed. Log into the online filing portal, click the two-buildings icon at the top right, and select My Profile. Click the edit icon under the Action column, scroll to the Attorney Letter Detail section, enter the Courier Consignment No. and Receiving Date, and upload the scanned signed letter.
Step 9: Receive Your PIN Code
Once IPO-Pakistan verifies your uploaded letter and matches the courier consignment number against their records, they’ll generate a 4-digit PIN Code and send it via SMS and email. With the PIN Code in hand, your registration is complete and you can submit applications on behalf of your clients.
FAQ
Can I register more than one law firm under my CNIC?
No – only one law firm registration is allowed per CNIC. If you have multiple firms, the second registration needs to be filed under a different partner’s CNIC.
What if my firm has several partners – can each one register separately?
No – only one registration is granted per law firm, even if it has multiple associates. Choose one attorney to hold the registration.
Can I submit applications immediately after getting my Username and Password?
No – you can log in, but you cannot submit applications until your address verification letter is uploaded, verified, and your PIN Code is issued.
What’s the difference between ATTORNEY and RTMA?
ATTORNEY is for lawyers registered with a Bar Council; RTMA is for Registered Trademark Agents registered directly with the Trademark Registry, IPO-Pakistan. Both fall under the REPRESENTATIVE registration type.
