How to Add a Sales Invoice in IRIS Invoice Management (2026 Guide)

If you’re a registered sales tax taxpayer, you don’t type your Sales Tax Return numbers directly into Annex-C – you add them first through IRIS’s Invoice Management module, and the return pulls them in automatically. This guide walks through adding a domestic sales invoice step by step.

New to Sales Tax Returns generally? Start with our step-by-step guide to filing a Sales Tax Return, and see Sales Tax Annexures Explained to understand where these invoices end up.

Step 1: Open Invoice Management

After logging into IRIS, go to Invoice Management in the mega menu and select the Sales Ledger sub-menu. This takes you to the “Sales Tax Invoice Management” screen for domestic transactions, with filters to search your existing invoice records.

Step 2: Click Add Invoice

Click the Add Invoice button provided for domestic transactions to open the invoice details window.

Step 3: Choose Sales, Debit Note, or Credit Note

The invoice details window opens with a radio option to select Sales for a sales invoice, or Debit Note / Credit Note for those adjustments. Selecting a type loads the fields relevant to it – all three are entered from this same screen, and IRIS auto-loads saved records into the correct annexure of your Sales Tax Return.

Step 4: Enter Buyer Details and Invoice Type

After choosing “Sales,” enter the Buyer Registration Number / CNIC and select Invoice Type as “Sales Invoice” from the dropdown.

Step 5: Fill In the Item Details and Save

Fill out all mandatory fields for the item on the invoice, then click Save Item.

Step 6: Add Multiple Items to the Same Invoice

Once an item is saved, it appears under Item(s) List with options to edit or delete it. The invoice header details stay filled in, so you can repeat step 5 to add more items to the same invoice without re-entering the buyer information. When you’re ready to start a new invoice, click Clear to reset the details.

Step 7: Find Saved Invoices Later

Close the invoice details window and IRIS returns you to the domestic transactions grid, where you can look up any saved record by filtering – including by invoice number.

Step 8: Load Invoices Into Your Return

Every sales invoice, debit note, and credit note you enter – including third-party invoices already in the system – is auto-loaded into the matching annexure once you create a Sales Tax Return. If you created the return before adding your invoices, click Load Invoices to pull them in.

FAQ

Do I need to create my Sales Tax Return before adding invoices?

No – you can add invoices to Invoice Management at any time. If you added invoices before creating the return, they auto-load; if you created the return first, click “Load Invoices” to pull them in.

Can I add a Debit or Credit Note the same way as a Sales Invoice?

Yes – select the Debit Note or Credit Note radio option instead of Sales when starting the invoice, and IRIS will load the fields specific to that type.

What happens to third-party invoices reported against my registration?

They’re already in the system and get auto-loaded into the relevant annexure of your return alongside the invoices you enter yourself.
